Description

Louis Fremaux / City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra ~ Massenet - Le Cid & Scenes Pittoresques & The Last Sleep of the Virgin TWO 350 1971
Extremely rare audiophile classical LP from the UK Studio 2 Stereo series.  Exquisite ballet and orchestral pieces by Massenet brought to life by Fremaux / CBSO and the dynamic range of this analogue stereo recording. 
This particular copy features 'Odeon' stickers over the Columbia Records logos on the front and back of the sleeve and both labels. I believe this indicates that this copy was pressed in the UK for export to Germany or France. I have not been able to track down another copy with this possible export variation, and it is very likely that these copies are more scarce than those without the Odeon stickers. This copy may be among the first pressed, as evidenced by the matrix identifiers and mothers/stampers. 
Original 1971 ED1 UK STEREO Pressing: ~Garrod & Lofthouse 'Flipback' sleeve~ ~Black labels with silver print and white 'Studio 2 Stereo' and 'EMI' logos~ ~Includes original 'Made in Great Britain' poly-lined inner sleeve~ ~EARLIEST MOTHERS and STAMPERS: '1 A / 1 B' ~First pressing matrix identifiers: 'YAX 4247-1 / YAX 4248-2'
CONDITION: Cover: VG++. Slight shelf wear only.  Labels: NM. One very slight spindle mark on Side 2 visible under direct light. Vinyl: NM. Highly glossy vinyl. Plays with superb audiophile sound quality. Only defect is one very thin superficial mark on the last band of Side 2 that does not affect play whatsoever.
