FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY – HOW YOU GONNA KEEP YOUR LITTLE GIRL HOME / CAN’T GO HOME (SMASH S-2144) (PROMO) (VG++)
From Wilmington Delaware, this band was formed by Ted Munda after his previous band The Endfields broke up in 1967. Can’t Go Home is a great pop-psych composition with an impeccable studio arrangement that raises it a few notches above the rest. The flip, How You Gonna Keep Your Little Girl Home is in the same vein, but a bit more lightweight with more emphasis on pop rather than psych. Both songs on this 45 were written my N. Brian, who was not one of the band members. Munda had done a six song demo for the record label, but with slumping sales of this 45, there was no request to come back and record any more of his material and other than an acetate from him in 1970, he apparently never went on to record anything more. In This copy appears to be a rare label variant, with “Promotional Copy” stamped on the red stock copy, rather than the pink promo label and is in great shape graded as VG++ and plays as EX- on both sides. Check out the scans and audio samples.
