Available for auction - an authentic slice of 1969 Psych Folk on the Torquay based RA micro label. (The same label would go on to release the superb “Seasonal Man” by The Farway Folk as well as several other gems).

Only 99 copies of this single were pressed which is perhaps why it has evaded the radar of so many serious collectors. Fortunately Pete Rice (Well known SW dealer) has done much to research the RA label on his site and offers the following information: “In 1967 they changed their name to FROZEN TEAR, and now being under the wing of the Management Agency HARRY GREENSLADE / PETER HOLDER, bookings were becoming more regular. As well as appearing alongside the likes of Amen Corner and Plastic Penny, their biggest 'claim to fame' was to be on the same billing as Fleetwood Mac and The Herd at Pennycross Stadium in Plymouth, May 1969. Four months later Frozen Tear had the privilege of being the first artists to record and release a record for the newly set-up studios and label RA RECORDS. "You Know What Has To Be", a song penned by leader Tony Way, was intended to be side 1, but the printer mislabeled it, thus "The Hunter", a song renowned by the FREE, became the A side. However, John Peel played Tony's composition a couple of times on his show and gave the thumbs up, but alas this was to no avail. A note on grading: We use the UK Record Collector grading system with the addition of a (+) or a (-) to denote a slight increase or decrease in condition. Items described with an aural grade have been carefully played on a Garrard 301 grease bearing turntable paired with a Kondo Silver wired SME 3012 series 1 tonearm and Audio Note IO Ltd cartridge (See film above).

Record:

The original Gold RA labels display well showing barely any signs of use to the spindle holes. No stickers, writing, rips or tears- light staining / storage marks only. The playing surfaces are flat and true. Under direct angled light the surfaces display a full and complete luster with light scuffing / paper chaffing only to the best side (You know how it’s got to be) – The Flip side ‘The hunter features a few hairlines which again does not affect play.

Aurally this recording plays well … Condition grade visually = VG and aurally = Excellent (EX) N.B: This is a MONO recording and will sound best when played with a true MONO cartridge.
