THE WHITE EP. No.01245 featuring The Pretty Things, Jack Ellister, Cranium Pie, The Bevis Frond, The Luck Of Eden Hall, Henry Padovani, Anton Barbeau and The Seventh Ring Of Saturn.
The Beatles' White Album - bit of a classic? yep So Fruits de Mer has decided to pay its respects to it with eight great artists re-creating songs exclusively for this release. And what a line-up! The Pretty Things' stunning version of 'Helter Skelter' is worth the price of admission on its own ("as moody as a hoodie with toothache" - Record Collector) and there's much, much more, from bare acoustic to full-on psychedelia to..........Cranium Pie (you really wouldn't want to live next door to these guys).
So, what exactly IS Fruits de Mer's White EP? 2 x 7" white vinyl (naturally), gatefold sleeve and sequentially-numbered (totally unoriginally), I even got the pressing plant to emboss the FdM name on the front as a double-act of ego-massaging and financial folly - yes, all-in-all, it's a bit of a tribute, only smaller.
