Description

In 1984 Metallica’s new label, Electra, issued a 12 in., 33-1/3 rpm promotional single of the ballad “Fade to Black” from Ride the Lightning, the band’s second album and first for a major label. The typical recipients were select deejays at commercial and college radio stations. This copy originally belonged to UPenn WXPN graveyard host, Hacksaw.

The single, recorded on both sides, was issued in day-glo lime green vinyl (cat. #ED5042) and in black vinyl (cat. #ED5044). This auction is for the rare green vinyl issue in its original clear plastic sleeve with the green title label sticker. The disc appears unplayed and in mint condition, without the band-member autographs that can, for some collectors, negatively effect the value of owning this single as originally issued.
