The item you see in the photos is the item available in this auction. The format is a single sleeve containing two records (double vinyl pack) since its the special edition released in the UK. there is a semi-gloss printed sleeve for each, on one of the sleeves is printed the lyrics. The 12" contains a mix of Midlife Crisis plus two tracks; crack hitler and midnight cowboy. the album itself doesn't have these tracks.

I'd ask that you please read down to the end of the listing as there is some important info there, including some nice quality photos.

My experience with this album was sat in a van driving along listening to the CD being played over and over - so it got in by osmosis.I didn't really know of or care for Faith No more before this, but it initiated a growing up of kinds for me - to see how songs can be more than just guitars - how a rock band can transcend their jock status and progress. it was this and Blood Sugar Sex Magik - because of the sounds around the instruments in the case of the latter, but the breezy production in the case of this one
Originally conceived by keyboard player Roddy Bottum, Angel Dust reflects the idea of a beautiful name for something that can do a lot of damage and which gets you to think about the name.
it was recorded on 2" tape with producer Matt Wallace, and is possibly the sound of Faith No More growing up and branching out.
If the Real Thing was their frat party then this album is them waking up and going out and finding some real life to bring back. If the Real Thing was a pink, clean ice cream van driven drunk, then Angel Dust was the paint peeling from damp walls and the driver going to a public toilets to do a bit of cottaging.
The soundstage is great (being recorded in analog) and has that elastic quality that earlier albums lacked - coming as this did in the early 90's, thankfully the 80;s style of polish and squeeze the crap out of it had run its course so what we get here are unbleached coffee-paper like fronds of aural activity that extend into and to the back of the room. production that fits the material. Mike Bordin's drumming; snappy as it is, benefits and actually drives the music whereas with the older production values it might grate.
It says something that this album rewards with time. You have the creepy filmic misery and defeat of RV - one that you could imagine Tom Waits singing - and the uplifting anthem of Small victory, side by side. The aural palette, bringing in Patton's love for the sinister soundtrack expands greatly. Roddy Bottum triggering dusty scratchy samples as a loose narrative device before the lyrics start -as if to twist a disco knife into the insanity. Even the arrangements hint at the mischief of the group. They may have gotten more accomplished with later albums, but in terms of sheer aim and scope, this album hasn't been bettered before since. Just the right balance of juvenile, sinister and accessible

Now to this particular copy of the album:

I'm starting this at £2.00 and with no reserve, this is going to give everyone a look in and hopefully increase the chances of a proper auction in the true ebay sense

I am selling to raise funds

I'll ship this with a fluted stiffener and a quality 625 micron, side seamed record mailer with fragile and DO NOT BEND (in both English and your native language if outside English-speaking countries) I always obtain a certificate of postage and will remove the record from the sleeve to prevent any ringwear or abrasion.

With this copy of the album its difficult because i haven't played it and yet there are marks, so i've added two views of each side at different angles so hopefully you can get a balanced view between what i call incidental (ie chatter or paper scuff) and structural imperfections...none of the marks you see is caused by playing- it is scuffing caused by the sleeve in the case over time..the record hasn't been played more than 10 times..the marks aren't indicative of structural scratches where you can see them when you hold the record directly facing you - those type affect audio - no, it was quite hard to get an angle where i could see them against the light. this is why I would classify the record as better than it appears if that makes sense. Hopefully my photos should tell you a lot. i took care to take them in natural light and with the option to double zoom to a pretty large size. I didn't clean the records beforehand so what you can see is those filaments of lint or dust that you always get on records.
It's difficult to get a good photo of a record surface; it being a natural refractor of light and circular to boot - interference patterns are created by the grooves - but i endeavoured to do so; taking two photos of each side at a different angle..I present it in its most unflattering light as this is distance selling and i like to think the eventual winner sees what i saw and there are no surprises. wherever i saw the merest hint of a buff or scratch, i tried to angle the surface so the camera would pick that up.

As a guideline to help you, I'll stick roughly to this grading system. where I show something like NM/VG- - it refers to Vinyl condition/Sleeve condition
it is surprisingly dificult a) to describe condition without becoming generalised and b)taking good photos to show condition. (note: i don't believe in giving NM status - as this gives the impression that it has just left the shop, when I prefer to be slightly critical if anything)
      • Mint Vinyl- unused unplayed still sealed/ sleeve - same
      • Near mintVinyl - evidence of being removed and played but hardly noticeable
        - could pass for new/ Sleeve - maybe the slightest sign of handling if you really looked for it.
      • Ex (and gradations thereof) - Vinyl - tiniest wear, maybe one or two light brush marks in vinyl under reflected daylight but you'd have to look for it - obviously only been played less than about 6 times (Ex-)/ Sleeve - very straight sleeve - maybe miniscule amount of buffing on corners only - no creasing or ringwear visible.
      • VG (and gradations thereof) Vinyl - maybe one or two light brush marks - and light scratching - nothing that would diminish the audio playing/Sleeve- light buffing on corners , perhaps small amount of creasage in sleeve, light buff marks on edges - but nothing consistent.
      • G (and gradations thereof) - more scratches in evidence, maybe a light scratch which can be seen without strong light, and especially without reflected light. speckle scratching - which would be evidence of enduring light abrasion - as if on inner sleeve. audio - although listenable - occasional crackles in evidence caused by physical profile of surface. probably been played at least 60-70 times. Sleeve - ringwear in evidence - maybe shabby edges and definitely some buffing maybe short corner tears in evidence. inner would prbably either be yellowed at edges and possibly torn slightly at corner.nothing though that would compromise the vinyl. (i missed out grading for moderate conditions as one only needs to know if its worth bidding on or not, i feel - none of my albums fall into the moderate or crap categories.)
      • Cr (and gradations thereof) - vinyl - in advanced state of wear, scratches galore and advanced speckle scratching to the point where the needle would probably jump on occasion. - for completists and the curious mainly. still plays but also could be used as a skateboard if you wish. Sleeve - falling apart at the seams - advanced ringwear and corners torn. maybe can see the vinyl edges through the sleeve. creasing or evidence of folding.

      Condition

Overall: Vinyl VG/VG sleeve and inner: VG/VG+
      • main albumthe vinyl is in good condition (see grading above).. its been played no more than about 10 times. - Side A :- G : (at a certain angle in room and day light) Apart from a couple of fingerprints and some dust (those omnipotent little curled hair like particles or lint) I can see a shallow parabolic area of sleeve-shear running out from track 5 to the outer edge..indicating sleeve-turn also few areas of radial hairline scratches about 4 cm-odd in length on areas of the record- this parallel swash scratching is indicative of scuffing in the sleeve. This may produce audio artefacts. 1 x 1" structural scratch(ie that can be seen without light reflected at an angle) across first track . there maybe pops and a slight amount of audio degradation due to this, but i haven't got the setup to play it.
Side B G+ : This side is better - some very light radial hairline speckle scratches - also at a certain angle - i can see two scratches that are slightly more visible than the others, one 3/4" across track 1, and another 2 inches running across first few tracks. .
      • No spindle hole deformation on side A or B - please bear in mind I'm putting this under the microscope here.
      • 12" discvinyl in excellent condition having been played once side one : (Ex-) :- only the merest hint of a couple of very light whisper scratches from sleeve activity. side 2 (Ex) :- perhaps even better if anything. i'll give this exceleent becuase i've been hard on the main disc.

      • The sleeve and inners are in good condition - i have had it stored in a record case - erring on the critical side - its a fairly decent quality card, gloss single sleeve ; record aperture pretty good - has some aperture ovalling and slacking only due to being stored and its age - nothing problematic though - record deformation only.
aperture has small amount of lip burring along length.1 cm bump in top left corner of sleeve and small amount of buffing and fluffing on corners

spine has a couple of small lateral buff creases . and a line pinch crease 3 cm long - running 1/2 cm in and up from the bottom.

      • no ringwearpossibly due to superior quality artwork laminate - due to being in a case with other records (not stacked) on top portion of rear of sleeve
      • The corners have a very small amount of buffing (see photos), none on edges, no deformation on record slots.
      • colour printed matte inner paper sleeve is clean and tight with slight buffing at each corner (about 1-2 mm) - no deformation on gatefold and aperture closes tight when no record in.
I hope this has helped- please ask if you require any more specific info.
