ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and rare LP, a superlative collector’s copy, from Vega (C30 A 310, French pressing, white lyre label, deluxe double-gatefold set with cloth spine and textured cover, mono) features the great cellist Guy Fallot in a magnificent 20th Century music program, recorded at the Salle Adyar, Paris, in October 1955 with his sister Monique, a fine pianist and splendid artist in her own right accompanying him in two of the works, the last a solo work.
Fallot’s exact program is as follows:
Henri Honegger: Sonata for Cello and Piano
I Andante non troppo
II Andante sostenuto
III Presto
Claude Debussy: Sonata for Cello and Piano
I Prologue
II Sérénade
III Finale
Zoltan Kodaly: Sonata for Solo Cello Op. 8
I Allegro
II Adagio
III Allegro
These are masterly performances by any measure, among the very finest ever made of these works and then can be had here in their finest possible pressing, and in truly lovely condition.
The sound engineer for this recording was Pierre Rosenwald. The striking album design was executed by Martine Duchemin while Claude Rostand supplied the superlative liner notes, printed in French only.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the cloth spine, double-gatefold jacket is near-MINT. Though there is some minor bumping at corners, really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears virtually as new – overall, this rates as a lovely collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. There is a slight bit of surface noise (needle-like sounds) in the Debussy, though nothing overly obtrusive. The Honegger is more or less free of any defects, the Kodaly even more so, the latter certainly rating a near-MINT grading. If you must have absolutely flawless surfaces throughout, then please do not buy this LP. In general, however, I personally consider this a very fine collector’s copy of a truly rare disc.
