Fantasy Film World of Bernard Herrmann (Quadraphonic reel-to-reel tape)
Being offered is the 7" open reel (reel-to-reel, 1/4" tape) album: Fantasy Film World of Bernard Herrmann, with Bernard Herrmann himself conducting the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Produced in 1974 by London Records and Decca Record Company, catalog number LON J 144207. Manufactured and distributed by Ampex. Format: 4 track Quadraphonic. (No Dolby.) Speed: 7-1/2 ips. All original materials: tape, reel, box.
Here is a 1970s surround-sound open reel tape of Bernard Herrmann's music, conducted by the composer himself! Herrmann is a legend of the film score world, having penned a broad spectrum of the films we still enjoy today. Here is a collection of his scores for fantasy and science fiction films. My runaway favorite is the score for The Day the Earth Stood Still, creating a very science-fictiony sound, Composed in the summer of 1951, this was the composer's first soundtrack after he moved to Hollywood. Herrmann chose a most unusual instrumentation for director Robert Wise's picture, including electric violin, electric bass, two theremins, test oscillators, vibraphone, four pianos, four harps, and approximately 30 brass instruments. Unusual overdubbing and tape-reversal techniques were also used. This is a piece which showcases the creativity and flexibility of a musical master.
This album is very rare in open reel form, and nearly impossible to find as a quadraphonic recording. Once it's gone, you'll likely never see another.
Note that quadraphonic tapes are unidirectionally played, where the four-channel program occupies all four tracks, and the convention is that the tape is first rewound and then played back to the beginning point (so that the tape ends up being wound for storage in least-stressed state). This is sometimes referred to as "tails out".

Condition:Used, but well cared for, so in generally excellent physical condition. See photo. Purchased new by me: played only on a high-end tape deck. Stored in dry, climate-controlled conditions. I no longer have an open reel deck, so cannot test this tape, so has to be offered as-is; but I can say that it was just fine when I played it years ago. From a smoke-free, pet-free, child-free home.

I ship to the US only, via the United States Postal Service (The Post Office). I do not ship outside the United States - no exceptions. (Do not waste my time and yours by asking for an exemption.)
Keep in mind that shipping rates have generally escalated due to increases in fuel costs.
Books, sound recordings, and video tape will be sent via USPS media rate. Other goods are shipped via USPS Parcel Post. Choosing less costly shipping methods makes for lower costs for you and makes the acquisition of eBay goods more realistic. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for delivery: in particular, note the eBay annotation for expected delivery times for shipping methods. Shipments which have to travel the full width of the country will necessarily take maximal time, as compared with shipments to an adjoining New England state. USPS has been 100% reliable, so delivery should be certain. Goods will ship the next non-holiday weekday after payment is received.
Goods will be packed to avoid damage in shipment, to the extent reasonable. As a buyer, I would want my goods to arrive in good order, and so I do what I can for you as the buyer to have everything arrive in its condition at ship time.
