This ultra rare first pressing of this iconic rock album was acquired by myself in November, among a joblot of records that had been in storage for approx. 30 years in a loft. Unfortunately a lot of these records were well-played by their original owners, and not stored in the best conditions. However, this LP in particular has come out in a lot better condition than a lot of the others that I received, and it's still a very competent copy!
It is said that there were only approx. 2000 of these covers made in the original production run before the production was halted and the text colour changed from turquoise to orange, a decision supposedly made by the band and their manager. That version of the album went on to make this record the classic rock staple that it is today.

This record has the original A1/B1 uncrossed matrices, although it DOES NOT have the Superhype label error
Vinyl - VG - The labels have small amounts of writing on each side, the record has clearly seen better days with a lot of marks, sleeve removal marks and some scratches over tracks too. Fortunately the LP does not skip anywhere and still provides a nice, dynamic sound that I've not heard from any other pressing, albeit with some surface noise and crackle in quiter segments, and the occasional ticks/pops. I know a variety of sellers on eBay who would grade this record anything from VG+ to EX+ so I feel like this more conservative grading will suit for this album. I have included audio samples from both sides of the album below, please give them a listen to judge for yourself!

Cover - Please see photos. - This is a dificult item to grade, due to it's rarity, value and it's condition. Unfortunately due to the conditions it was stored in, the glue on the internal flaps has mostly dried up, and is causing them to separate. Luckily it can be repaired with hobbyist glue, some kind of archival tape or record jacket repair strips but I have not carried out any of these repairs myself due to the value, and would rather leave this task to a more competent person. As shown in the last 2 photos, the glue is still holding on somewhat on the bottom flap but I suspect it'll come apart with a little reckless tug. There is selotape residue on the top of the cover near the opening, something that's visible on both sides, and also two numbers written on the back cover near the opening in pen, but due to the cover being laminated on both sides, these things are something I suspect could be easily cleaned off with some gentle work. Please note that the laminate is also slightly lifting on the back close to the spine, all the way up. There are some thumbnail marks on the laminate near the opening and some small impressions from where someone has written on paper laid on-top of this cover. There are some creases to the spine too however it's text is still nice and readable on both the top and the bottom. There are a lot of nitpicks and individual demerits to this cover however It still feels good to hold in the hand, and it's very clear, bright and colourful throughout. Given some jacket repair strips and a little TLC from a careful hand, this jacket could be great! For this reason I'm not going to provide a specific grading for the cover as it's whatever you make of it. There are definitely worse ones out there!

This record comes with a generic Polydor records plastic-lined inner sleeve from the era, I'm not entirely sure if it's the original or not. It looks a little bit tatty although it's holding together nicely! The record will come housed in a high quality replacement inner sleeve to help preserve the record and keep it as clean as possible.

Please note that I play-test records with headphones as opposed to speakers to pick up on surface noise/flaws more clearly. I use a Technics SL-D2 Turntable with an Audio Technica VM540ML through a Pro-ject Tube Box S, depending on your system your results may vary. Please also note that due to compression, the MP3 samples do not reflect the true sound quality of the vinyl, but they can give you a good idea of the level of noise/wear that you will encounter when playing this record.

I use cardboard record mailers with cardboard stiffeners to ensure that the record gets to you in the exact same condition that it left me. I have sent out many LPs in these mailers now and have never received a complaint about them once so rest assured it will get to you safely.
