A few tracks: kink kong kitchie farmers' blues Titanic - ballad on the mightiest ship goin' down whitehouse blues (ballad on the assissination of Pres. Mckinley in 1901) #15 bandits/ Robbers ballad ( about good old ex Civil War vets goin' 'bad' - real bad..
** just a few titles ( there are 27-tracks here!) hint at the American Folk ballads contained here - even if you are contemporary punk-folk -electric folk -- you gotta know the original ballads before to really appreciate this American musical gift.... ex-library copy in excellent condition - this includes at copy of the invaluable Folkways' booklet that originally had to be purchased separately from the records- many buyers of the time passed on it because of the steep $5.00 price tag for it. What they unfortunately passed over, was an invaluable primary research guide to every track, every artist wit essential key discography details, original small set photos of the artist and in some case actual record covers ( of course 78s here) By 1888, many important recordings of [American] folks songs had been out on the fragile cylinders - until the gramophone discs by Emile Berliner when such ( inexpensive) recordings were suddenly available to the general public -
MODERN era folk music recordings began shortly after World War I with Ralph Peer o Okeh Records went to Atlanta Georgia with a portable recording equipment - where some record 'dealer' wanted to place an order for 1000 copies IF Peer would record the singing of circus barker 'fiddling' John Carson
* A copy of the 28-original $5.00 Folkways "American Folk Music" booklet will be included - it remains invaluable! for research, history, discography, biographical, actual photos of old advertisement 'envelopes' that held the discs. of songs and discs -details !
