Description
This lot contains four 10-inch 78-rpm records, all on the Atlantic label, all from the 1950's, and all in the general blues, rhythm and blues or soul genres. All four showed up for the first picture, then they are shown individually in the following order:
Atlantic # 1048 -- "White Christmas" and "The Bells of St. Mary's" by the Drifters, featuring Clyde McPhatter on both sides, and also Bill Pinckney on "White Christmas."
Atlantic # 1111 -- "Since I Met You Baby" and "You Can't Stop This Rocking and Rolling" by Ivory Joe Hunter, with orchestra and chorus directed by Ray Ellis.
Atlantic # 962 -- "Be Anything (But Be Mine)" and "5 - 10 - 15 Hours" by Ruth Brown.
Atlantic # 1086 -- "I Need You By My Side" and "A Tear Fell" by Ivory Joe Hunter and his Ivorytones, with orchestra.
In terms of condition, I've played them all on my Audio-Technica turntable, and the Disc and there were no skips or jumps, but varying degrees of audible background noise throughout, including miscellaneous pops, clicks and ticking. The Drifters record also produces some occasional light rhythmic thudding consistent with a slight warp or unevenness in the playing surface. "It is what it is", as my shaman used to say. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering devices and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please also check the pictures for stickers or inscriptions or other damage to the labels.
