Description
Here we have the celebrated Portuguese baritone Francesco D’Andrade.
He’s on a MEGA RARE 78rpm single-sided Lyrophon Test Pressing performing Abendstern (Wie Todesahnung) from Tannhäuser by Wagner.
It was probably recorded in 1906 (opinions differ) and was one of the recordings re-released by the Symposium label in 2006 on the CD entitled Major Vocal Rarities, so as you can see, it’s ..er.. a Major Vocal Rarity.
The disc has the name of the selection written in pencil on the label which also declares the disc to be a “Muster Platte” or test.
D’Andrade’s signature appears in the wax beneath and around the label, as well as the letters “d'A9-1” (meaning it was D’Andrade’s 9th recording for Lyrophon take 1?) and “f squiggle w” which you’ll have to work out for yourself.
The record isn’t mint.
It’s 112 years old, for goodness sakes, but is in fine playable condition. There are a few light marks, not affecting play, and the record is clean and collectable. I’d rate it as a VG+ ish.
You want it, you really do, and you’ll never find another.
I am not a dealer.
I am just an old bloke thinning out his collection of 78rpm records before the floor collapses!
I’m selling many of these records FOR LESS THAN THEY COST ME.
I apologise for the hefty mailing costs. I pack VERY carefully, in a firm cardboard sandwich with polystyrene peanuts etc.
It's very secure but quite expensive.
The record in the photograph is the record you will get.
I have described the item to the best of my ability, and everything looks in splendid condition to me, but please check the photographs to decide for yourself.
PAYPAL only Please.
I DO NOT POST OVERSEAS!
If you live outside the UK, I will post the disc to a friend or trusted dealer here in the UK, and you can then sort out further postage between yourselves.
This is because I like my buyers to be happy bunnies. If there is a problem, I like to sort it out personally.
I can't do this if you're thousands of miles away.
Thanks for looking!
