Description
Various Artists, A Special Gift to a Long Time Friend on Reprise RD-4. Deep groove, mono pressing. Stupendously rare, this very early (1961) promo-only Reprise sampler was pressed in tiny quantities and sent by Frank Sinatra to a small group of friends and business associates. He signed every copy on the A-side, which includes three of his songs: I'm Getting Sentimental Over You, Polka Dots and Moonbeams, and The One I Love Belongs to Someone Else. Seven other early Reprise artists are also featured. No cover was printed for this record, it came in a "Special Preview" Reprise paper sleeve advertising the label's LPs. The A-side vinyl (with Frank's songs) is very pretty VG++, B-side is VG+. Sleeve is in similarly pretty condition, with a couple of very minor flaws and a piece of Scotch tape at the bottom center fixing a seam split. Labels are flawless, snowy white, and Frank's signature is clear and clean. This is one of the rarest of his disks, unknown even to many serious collectors, and it almost never turns up. (Also check out my other rare Frank record for sale right now, his unissued live LP with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.)
GRADING
M- A flawless or nearly flawless record that appears to have seen little or no play.
VG++ Superb record, full gloss with a few superficial marks that do not sound.
VG+ Full gloss, light marks or scuffs, but an attractive record that has seen limited play and has been well cared for.
VG More marks and scratches, but still a decent record. Scratches may be fairly numerous, but will be light.
VG- Lots of marks and scratches but no gouges or major problems. Not a beautiful record, but still serviceable, not junk.
G+ and G Heavy wear and marks, plays through okay.
SHIPPING
