In 1969 the first pressing of this album came out contained in three different sleeves, two of which were withdrawn because of errors. The first incorrect sleeve censored the name of "9 Types of Industrial Pollution" (go figure); the second version misspelled "Electric Aunt Jemima" as "Jemina." This is the second version. It includes the 12-page color booklet, which I'll show in the photos.
I wonder if you've ever heard this on vinyl. It reflects Zappa's close involvement in everything to do with his music--this is a GORGEOUS mastering, one of the best-sounding late 60's albums I've ever heard--warm and immediate and present, great timbre and dynamics everywhere. Thanks Frank.
Also, if you're not that familiar with early Zappa stuff, this is the one record to have--it covers the gamut from Stockhausen-sounding electronics to "Louie Louie" to doo-wop to guitar shredding to (always) incredible instrumental prowess that honestly beats any progressive rock band from that era that you can think of. It's avant-garde, it's free jazz, it's great rock, it's hilarious.
NM-/VG+. Vinyl: three sides are NM; side 2 has minor surface sounds here and there. Sleeve: The faces of the sleeve, inside the gatefold and out, are a nice NM-, but there are splits between 2 and 3" on top and bottom.
