Description
Frank Zappa ?& The Mothers Of Invention : Rubber Slices
This rare double vinyl album has many things going for it. Some care was put into its packaging, utilizing a color photo for an article about Zappa in Acid magazine in the late 1970s; the producers also did their best to try to correctly identify songs, something that was pretty difficult to achieve when the guitarist was performing much unreleased material for his audiences. This two record set documents an entire Zappa concert during the 1978 Knebworth Open Aire Festival in Knebworth, England. The opener, misidentified as "Rubber Slices," is actually "The Deathless Horsie," an almost overwhelming vehicle featuring Zappa's guitar over a long plodding vamp. Other highlights include a turbocharged take of "A Pound for a Brown on the Bus," the complete medley of songs from the first side of Apostrophe, including the bonus addition of "Rollo", a piece either omitted from that record or added later to the arrangement, and a preview of Zappa's wicked blues shuffle "Bamboozled by Love."
