ALMOST Complete set of The 100 Greatest Recordings of All Time, released by The Franklin Mint Record Society in 1978. Set contains 50 library case boxes, each containing two 33½ lp vinyl records for a total of 100 records. Records are etched on rich, deep-red vinyl, and each library case includes several pages of illustration and annotation, providing background on the records it contains.
The records are near-mint and have only been played once or twice. They should play perfectly.  Boxes are in very nice condition with only minimal wear

‘The 100 Greatest Recordings of all time’ from the Franklin Mint has been called the ultimate private library of fine recorded music. Every recording was selected by a distinguished panel of music authorities (Martin Bookspan, Schuyler G. Chapin, Franco Ferrara, Irving Kolodin, William Mann, R. Gallois Montbrun, Marcel Prawy, Andre Previn, William Schuman and H. H. Stuckenschmidt). The library was first announced on the 100th anniversary of Thomas Edison’s invention of the phonograph. Each recorded treasure was pressed with a special vinyl formulation that enabled a clear, quiet playing surface on a more rigid LP disk. Every record was pressed in an atmosphere controlled “clean room.”  There are 50 library cases. Each library case houses two proof-quality long playing records, with each record resting, fully protected, within its own dust free compartment. The record is firmly supported within the closed compartment in such a way that the grooved playing surface never touches any part of the case. Each library case includes a specially written and illustrated commentary, by a respected music expert. The composers and their works are discussed in detail, and background information is provided on the orchestras, conductors, ensembles, and featured soloists. This is a truly unsurpassed private library of recorded music.

Franklin Mint Record Society 100 Greatest Recordings of All Time FULLSET -MISSING 1and2-the first set. I have the ALMOST full 100 record set, plus the little books for each record.  I have looked at 5-6 sets and they look unplayed. I don't think any have ever been played or at least minimum play. . The boxes are slighty worn but clean and shiny with just a few blemishes. Inside each 2 record box set is s molded plastic cover that covers each record. Ships in 4 heavy boxes. From a non smoking home. 

RECORD GRADING Based On Goldmine Grading Standards:   (All vinyl is graded visually)

SEALED (S)

NEAR MINT (NM): A nearly perfect record. There may be one or two small inaudible defects. The record should show no obvious signs of wear.  An LP jacket should have no creases, folds, seam splits or any other noticeable similar defect. No cut-out holes, either. 

NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-): A record that should play mint but has a few slight visible marks. The album will have as much luster as an NM, there just may be some superficial scuffs from the sleeve or very light hairlines that shouldn't be audible. An NM- album cover subjectively fits somewhere in between VG+ and NM. 

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't significantly affect play. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable.  An LP jacket may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount. 

 

VERY GOOD (VG): Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers.

 GOOD (G): Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play though without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear. A jacket or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the subject.
