Fantastic Complete Series 'The Greatest Jazz Recordings Of All Time'. Produced by The Franklin Mint in accordance with The Institute of Jazz Studies between the early to mid 1980's, compiled by Dan Morgenstern the then director of the institute. Totalling 25 box set's each containing 4 x 160 gram burgundy coloured vinyl and also an individual booklet giving information about the artists/recordings, rare photos of the artists, biographies, track listings and discographies. Also includes certificate of authenticity with information relevant to each particular box set. The series is essentially an overview of the history of jazz music from it's beginnings up to mid eighties contemporary jazz, each set tries to encapsulate an individual theme such as Jazz Masters of the Keyboard/Sax, Great Jazz Inventors, The Roots of Jazz, Big Band Jazz Masters, Chicago Style etc or more of a focus on some of the greats - Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Billie Holiday etc etc.. The pressings are of a very high standard (included in the sale is an original letter sent out to subscribers apologising for a delay in the first shipment due to engineers halting production as the raw materials necessary for production were not absolutely perfect..) The records are all in near mint to mint condition, after going through every single one of the 100 vinyls the worst blemish I could find was one very light scuff mark on one side of a record! (Please see photo). They are all extremely clean and I think some have definitely never been played before. The outer sleeves are generally in good condition with the occasional (corrected) folded corner but no rips. There is evidence of some small spots of mildew on some of the sleeves (they have been stored inside for a number of years) but this has in no way impacted on the records themselves as the sleeves are of the paper outer/plastic inner variety). The individual booklets are also in great condition overall, again, there are some that have some light spots of mildew but nothing untoward, volume 12 (Classic Performers) is unfortunately missing its booklet but individual box sets can be found for sale on discogs and eBay should you wish to source one. Equally volume 20 has the letter of authenticity missing, volumes 2 and 11 have a slight crease in the box and 11 has some slight damage to the booklet/record sleeve (please see photos), volume 3 has some writing on the back cover of the booklet. Volume 25, record 97 has side 'A' label repeated on the 'B' side. All in all the series is in fantastic condition and beautifully presented.
