This is the 1998 double vinyl LP Blacklight Fantasy by Freaky Chakra (real name Daum Bentley), released on Astralwerks. It’s a prime slice of late-’90s San Francisco psychedelic dance/electronic weirdness—think progressive house, acid, breakbeat, and electro all melted together under blacklights with a healthy dose of trippy, body-moving grooves.

This was Bentley’s second full-length on Astralwerks, following stuff like Lowdown Motivator. It’s known for getting a bit darker and more baroque than his earlier work—long, spiraling psychedelic journeys perfect for warehouses or whatever dimly lit room you spin vinyl in. “Fascist Funk” is an especially cheeky title; nothing says “dance floor liberation” like ironic authoritarian grooves from the pre-Y2K era.
