The Chattanooga area has always been a center of sorts for old time country music. In the 1920's, the city acted as a meeting ground between the fiddle music of North Georgia, the string band of Tennessee, and the vocal stylings of North Alabama. Huge fiddling contests were staged in downtown Chattanooga, and featured local, colorful characters like Sawmill Tom Smith and Tom Cat Payne.

The area also embraced more modern, electric music, including the early sounds of jazz, blues, pop, and even gospel. In the 1920's, Chattanooga was a favorite locale for blues empress, Bessie Smith, as well as numerous musicians, black and white, who carried tunes down the river from vaudeville and showboat stages.

• Ben Pedigo – A founding member of Maple On The Hill and renowned in the bluegrass scene.

• Clyde Blaylock and Ralph Blaylock – Longtime bluegrass musicians who have shaped Chattanooga's bluegrass sound.

This album was produced as part of the Traditional Music Project by the Pine Breeze Center, and includes a dedication to Eldia Barbee, a close friend of the musicians.
