ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP – a "Red Stereo" issue – from Deutsche Grammophon (SLPEM 136 398, German pressing, AH tulip label, stereo) features a somewhat scarce Ferenc Fricsay title, that pairing his inspired renditions of Haydn's Te Deum (recorded 'live' by DG, rare for this epoch) with Mozart's Masonic Funeral Music, the Missa Brevis K. 259, and the haunting Adagio and Fugue K. 546, the latter one of the highlights of the conductor's vast discography.
Incidentally, on the reverse side of the jacket, the date of printing is shown as March 1964.

Haydn: Te Deum in C Major H 23c No. 1
(rec. 'live' at Jesus-Christus-Kirche, Berlin on 1 September 1961)
> with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin RIAS Chamber Chorus and the North German Radio Chorus (Choral Directors: Günther Arndt and Max Thurn).
Wrote critic Robert Levine for ClassicsToday.com of the above performance: "The Haydn Te Deum is presented in a live performance; this nine-minute piece is too little-known. It's a joyous work from late in Haydn's life (1800), beginning with what sounds like a college football fight-song and ending with a fabulous double-fugue--and it receives a rousing performance."

Fricsay was one of the great Mozart conductors of the last century and these remarkable performances show why – wonderfully vital, with great depth of feeling, both angst and joy.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is slight bumping at corners, as well as some minor creasing, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. The surfaces are not always absolutely CD silent, but in general the playback is superb – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
