Offered is the Original Mono Edition Release of Milestones by Miles Davis on Columbia's Red and Black "6 Eye" label.

and says:
 

Tenor saxophonist John Coltrane's return to Davis' group in 1958 coincided with the "modal phase" albums: Milestones and Kind of Blue (1959) are both considered essential examples of 1950s modern jazz. Davis at this point was experimenting with modes – scale patterns other than major and minor.

"Sid's Ahead" sounds at first like a re-working of the highly successful "Walkin'" (previously released on the Prestige label), minus the opening passage (and the trombone) but here is interpreted (by different musicians) with much greater musical freedom in the solos. Davis plays both trumpet and piano on "Sid's Ahead". He plays trumpet in the ensemble passages and solos on trumpet but switches to piano to accompany the saxophonists in Garland's absence. "Billy Boy" is a solo feature for Garland and the rhythm section.

THE VINYL -  VG+ :  Moderate playtime is evident, with numerous light and shallow marks along both of the the vinyl surfaces. Bright, undamaged Red and Black Columbia 6 Eye labels, and moderate spindlewear. Light, periodic background noise occurs. 

Also present is cosmetic sleevewear from the inner sleeve.

There are no deep marks, and all tracks play through with no skipping or sticking.

The mono playback is strong and clear.




THE COVER -    VG+ :  Please see photos / generally well stored / the front shows scuffing and faint ringwear / present is some age-related yellowing / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact with some edgewear / no writing, stains, or paper loss.    


We have placed both the cover and the LP into separate, protective plastic sleeves.
