ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome and rare LP from Vox (PL 7210, US pressing, black/silver label, mono) features Wilhelm Furtwangler’s legendary “live” performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat Major, recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in concert at the Philharmonie, Berlin, on 27 June 1943.
One can hear the hall in this remarkable recordings, which is imbued with a tremendous sense of occasion – it remains a landmark in the Fourth's discography.
The cover art was executed by Herschel Levit and the liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only, were written by Charles Stanley. The copyright date is given as 1951.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD-. There is a 1" split to the upper-left corner and a ¾" split to the lower-left corner. There is also general bumping/wear at corners, some edge wear, shelf wear and mild discoloration. However, there are no bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's
The condition of the LP is EXCELLENT. Visually, there are numerous hairline marks, some scuff-like marks and a few small non-sounding scratches. The labels are both clean. In terms of sound, the surfaces are not CD silent, and there is light surface noise as one would expect from a nearly 70-year-old Vox pressing. In the first movement, there is a single tic, but otherwise both sides play cleanly. However, if you must have flawless surfaces, then please do not buy this LP - overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
