Description
Verve MGV-8238, black label with trumpet player logo, deep groove. Side 1 has 3 tracks with the Cecil Taylor Quartet: Taylor, piano; Steve Lacy, soprano sax; Dennis Charles, drums; Buell Neidlinger, bass. Side 2 has 3 tracks with the Jazz Laboratory including Gigi Gryce, alto sax; Donald Byrd, trumpet; Hank Jones, piano; Osie Johnson, drums; Wendell Marshall, bass. This material was from an afternoon concert at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1957.

Record Mint Visually shows no wear. There are no markings on the vinyl surface. There is only slight surface noise in the verbal introduction of the groups. This occurs when the groups are introduced and not in the comments the musicians make before each tune. In fact these introductory remarks may have some distortion in the announcer's microphone. There is no other surface noise. As mentioned I have discounted the announcer's remarks in the overall rating. Possibly played only 1 or 2 times with care. Fine collectable quality.
