The missing link between Skip Spence and Iron & Wine. More melodic than you'd expect for an acid folk artist. Only one track qualifies as freak folk--the Beefheartian "Down on the Farm". The rest is pretty, melancholic, and slightly trippy but totally accessible. Along with Vashti Bunyan, Sibylle Baier and Linda Perhacs, Higgins is another recentlyrediscovered/unearthed folky who's music is well worth the excavation. In particular the opening cut "Thicker Than A Smokey" is just amazing, totally lysergic but with a nice rural feel as well. One of the best private press LP's of all time. RARE!
