GARY & STU Harlan Fare (Carnaby 1971 JP) Orig Promo Psych Prog Popsike + Insert
I remember reading about this gem in the much missed Sweet Floral Albion UK psychedelia online 'zine a long time before I actually got to hear it. Described as a lost pop/popsike/psych/sunshine classic, I searched high and low for a copy for about 15 years before I finally managed to track one down. Gary and Stu had previously been in Koobas and March Hare and really let their songwriting florish on this LP, producing a mini masterpiece. A sublime collection of pop and rock with a foot in earlier psych sensibilities, this also has one eye on late period Beatles/ early Badfinger. 'Man Of Many Faces' has recently been compiled on the latest Fading Yellow 16, one of many highlights here. It's amazing this LP completely slipped through the net at the time, but it only got a release in the UK and Spain, with a horrible sleeve looking more like a cheapo Reader's Digest budget LP. Thankfully this also got a release in Japan at the time, and the Japanese put a tasteful picture of the boys on the front sleeve instead. This Japanese pressing is high quality and was possibly promo only and has turned up on the market about as often as the Japanese pressing of July. In other words, almost never. As well as a much better design, the sleeve is nice thick textured card and comes with the original envelope inner and lyric insert too. This is a top quality pressing too, with stunning sound. On top of that, this is a near faultless copy.
Grading
Vinyl: M- I doubt this has been played more than 2 or 3 times, no marks I can see and no spindle marks at all. A top copy that plays as good as it looks.
Sleeve: EX not far off M- with no obvious defects, just slight wear to the top seam. Inner sleeve and insert are in very nice EX condition too.
Grading
M- As new, no marks of any kind whatsoever.
EX Perhaps a few featherlight whispy marks, but no scratches or deterioration in sound
VG+ Some light marks on the vinyl, but nothing that should cause clicks or pops, just occasional light surface noise.
VG Some heavier marks and maybe a few scratches that will cause some noise, but will still be a very enjoyable listen with definitely no sticks or skips or constant surface noise.
