British composer Ron Geesin, best known for his surreal blend of jazz, musique concrete and avant-garde electronics, turns his eccentric ear to horror in this previously unreleased film score - a rediscovered gem of 70s weird Britain and written for a lost folk-horror feature alternately known as Madhouse Mansion or Asylum of Blood, the music is both playful and unhinged that twists pastoral motifs into feverish experiment. Tracks like 'Prickly Pathway' and 'Dark Hallway' lurch between warped fairground melody and tape-loop unease while 'Raving Pipes' and 'Haunted Path' evoke ritual panic through skittering percussion and shrill woodwind. Marianne Faithfull was due to voice its spectral presence but, legend has it, couldn't record, and left Geesin's textures to do the haunting instead. Unearthed by Trunk Records, it's a mad, magnetic portrait of British strangeness, where whimsy tips into dread and back again.
