Gehenna are one of the original founders of true Norwegian Black Metal. With 6 albums and 2 EP`s on their soul scarred conscience, they have made a profound impact on the black metal scene. Formed in January 1993 as a nameless project by Sanrabb, Dolgar and Sir Vereda, they eventually took the name "Gehenna" (meaning the valley of Hinnom's son, the place where children were sacrificed to the god Moloch. It is now a symbolic expression used in reference to hell or eternal punishment.)
Their first release "Ancestor of the Darkly Sky" was a 7 Inch Vinyl EP that was limited to a 1000 copies. Released on the Dutch label Necromantic Gallery Productions in May of 1993. They entered the studio later that year to record a full length album, but it was cancelled due to NFR's lack of money. 3 uncompleted songs from this studio session appear on the re-release of the Black Seared Heart Demo. The band returned in 2005, heralding a much welcomed return to their black metal roots, no doubt one of the main reasons for their cult-like status.
