GENE CLARK WITH THE GOSDIN BROTHERS
Original British orange CBS release, mono, excellent condition
Very nice copy of this hard-to-find and extremely desirable Byrds rarity. The line-up on the album includes members of the Byrds (Chris Hillman, Clarence White and Clark himself), with Leon Russell, Glen Campbell, Mike Clarke, Bill Rinehart and Jerry Kole, and Douglas Dillard.
This is an original A1/B1 CBS orange-label MONO release - extremely rare now!
The vinyl is in excellent condition - there are a couple of sight marks, including one instance of groove wear on track 3, side 2: I have played the entire record on my Garrard 401 turntable with Linn Basik tone-arm fitted with a Goldring cartridge, and the weight set to 1.5 grams. Barring the occasional light crackle at the start of each side there is no audible loss of quality anywhere. I try to avoid talking about the 'sheen', 'brilliance' or 'gloss' of the vinyl ,as I believe these are meaningless terms when it comes to how a record can look, versus how it actually sounds. I go by the sound.
The sleeve is in vg+ condition - there is wear to the laminate, signs of ring wear, and a split to the lower seam that has been repaired with adhesive tape; there is a 2cm split to the upper seam, the back of the sleeve has browned with age, there is spine damage, and a sticker - the number 90 - stuck on the back. Some of these limitations can be addressed, others not - especially the spine wear. However, anyone ready owing a mono copy of this record with a sleeve in decent condition and a worn record, will be pleased to have a disc in such top condition.
The CBS inner bag with circular window is of the period, with adverts for other CBS LPs, and The Sound of Entertainment printed around the circumference of the window. It has been repaired on all 3 closed sides with adhesive tape.
Finally - the songs! This is one of the more interesting Byrds side projects, as the songs have a personal resonance that is more than some good ol' boys from the country rock scene noodling in their spare time. This is a great, subtle record, with echoes of Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison in te vocal delivery, and killer arrangement - classic-rock period Americana at its best.
