Gene Cotton (Born June 30, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio) is a pop and folk singer/songwriter. He is best known for his Billboard Top 40 entries 1976-1978. They include "You've Got Me Runnin'" that reached #33 in 1976; "Before My Heart Runs Out" that charted at #23 in 1978; and a 1978 duet with Kim Carnes "You're a Part of Me" that reached #36. Cotton has been a resident of Leiper's Fork, Tennessee since the late 70s. In recent years, Cotton has scaled back his career as a singer and songwriter and spent much of his savings on a legal fight against the construction of a state highway that would surround Nashville. Cotton, the father of three adopted children, has devoted himself to helping the underpriviledged of his area by motivating them in their studies and activities through a program called Kids On Stage (KOS). KOS brings in Nashville artists to run summer classes that open the doors to the arts to kids who might otherwise never see greatness or think about greatness in ther arts. Most notably, Grammy Winner Michael McDonald has performed numerous times to bring awareness and raise donations for this program under Cotton's leadership. Cotton has also engaged his time producing independent films about the plight of the poor around the world. Condition: Record is sealed, unplayed, mint condition. Cover is close to near mint.
