Description
GENE VINCENT DISTANT DRUMS / BE BOP A LULA NIGHTTRACKS LABEL LIMITED EDITION EDITED FROM THE LAST SESSIONS RADIO PLAY ONLY 45 PLUS BLUE RADIO PLAY PROMO SHEET
Vincent recorded these songs on October 1, 1971, shortly after arriving in Britain, which remained in his corner after other territories had fallen by the wayside. His biggest American hit, "Be-Bop-A-Lula" IS naturally represented here," Vincent sounds much wispier than at his '50s peak, but he gamely drives himself along, while the band crackles beneath him; lead guitarist Richard Cole and keyboardist Dave Bailey prove to be the standouts. The most interesting track here is "Distant Drums," which the band hadn't played before; it's low-key, haunting, and perfectly suits Vincent's reduced vocal firepower. Vincent played his final gigs on October 3-4, 1971
