Description

For auction is a very rare 1st U.K. stereo issue of Genesis’ debut album - From Genesis To Revelation. 1W/2W matrices.

Research shows, and the producer Jonathan King confirmed, that only about 650 copies in total were sold, including the even rarer Mono version. This was partly as the band’s name was not directly indicated on the sleeve and many shops chose to display them in the Religion sections.

Original first issue sleeve is overall a VG-. It would be graded higher but there is the small ripped-off section on the rear. It is a genuine first issue sleeve as it has the mono/stereo peep hole in the top right of the rear, to allow the colour-coded inner sleeve to show through. Otherwise the sleeve is intact.

Original blue inner sleeve is in VG+ condition.

Original insert, with the all-important stereo AND mono catalogue numbers, is in excellent condition.

The record is visually and sonically about VG. Under normal light it appears clean and shiny, but under a bright lamp you can see many scuffs and hairlines, even if there are no deep or feelable marks.

These scuffs etc translate into a fair amount of light crackles and a few pops during play. It is not enough to distract from the music, but this is not a copy for someone who wants a pure and clean sound. There are no sticks skips or jumps and overall it is an enjoyable listen.

Labels very clean and merit an EX grading. Most importantly they are the original first issue ‘unboxed’ Decca labels. The reissue from later in 1969 had the boxed version.

This is a chance to own a decent copy of an incredibly rare record.
