It's like shopping in a time warp! If you need a copy of this, this should make a great addition to your collection! No bar code.
recorded on October 13th, 1978 at the Uptown Theater in Chicago, Illinois, is not only one the greatest concerts that Genesis ever did, but what makes it more stunning is that this is a concert done by the often maligned "Banks/Collins/Rutherford" line-up with augmentations from Daryl Streumer on Guitars and Bass and Chester Thompson on Drums, are caught here in top form, Daryl providing a "lead Guitar" presence (that rarely has ever been heard before or since in Genesis) with Mike handling the lead chores on his songs.
Many would get on Phil Collins for screwing up Genesis later in the years, but on this date his singing and his onstage between songs bantering are just great, and the band just seemed to be clicking on all cylinders on this particular date.
This as most would notice is a concert date that coincides with the "then" And Then There Were Three tour, and the band played only five songs off the album, and those songs seemed to make the most sense in a live setting, with Mike playing being more admirable than what he often know for, and Tony's keyboarding is not stuck way in front live on Second's Out and Three Sides Live. Chester also with a year under his belt, just tears through the Genesis repetoire like as if he's been in the band for years.
But all in told, the spotlight belongs to the newcomer to the band, Daryl Strumer, whom literaly speaking played on the definitve version of "Ripples" and in not trying to copy Steve Hackett note for note, made Steve's guitar parts more guitar related, in sense making the songs more "rock" related then his predecessor.
The Genesis management had listed this concert as one of the soundboard tapes that they had in inventory for the now dead "Archive" club, but those that have listened to or have this precious concert in their collection would be be hard pressed to have Genesis release this concert as a official release complete with the four songs ("Eleventh Earl Of Mar", "One For The Vine", "Squonk" and "I Know What I Like") which like everything on this concert is just stunning!
