Genesis : Nursery Cryme A1/B2 1st Press 'Pink Scroll' Label

This is another Genesis album that I am selling on the famous 'Pink Scroll' label and I am pleased to say this one also plays with stunning quality.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is so impressive and there is barely any interference, just a small number of light ticks on 'For Absent Friends' on S1.  S2 is stunning to say the least and could not play any better!

The textured cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and it includes the original and rare red Charisma inner which remains in very good condition - very clean but with a couple of side splits.

This is one of the earlier first pressings with a GD stamper on S1 and just a single R on S2.

CAS 1052 // A-1U / B-2U // GD 1 / R 1 // HILTOP etched on S1 & JB on S2

Visual grading

The vinyl is visually in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no groove wear.  I can only see a couple of faint hairlines on each side plus one very small faint scratch on S1.  The famous Charisma labels are in great condition with no marks or writing just some spindle wear.  This is easily one of the 'cleanest' first press versions of this album that I have seen for a very long time.

Play grading

'The Musical Box' has just the lightest of light static right at the start and Gabriel's opening vocal is close to perfect with only a handful of dust ticks and a couple of very light ticks.  This intro typically plays with a fair amount of static or worse but this is without doubt one of the 'cleanest' I have heard in a very long time.  There is just one static click towards the end of this section and then the first high octane passage plays 'as new' with stunning power and depth.  The next vocal section keeps up this fine standard with no interference whatsoever and it continues to play with impeccable quality to the very end.  There is no distortion on the top end and the quieter sections play with amazing clarity - the final quiet section in particular is absolutely stunning!  It builds into a finale that could not play any better - the power and depth here is phenomenal!  I will grade as Near Mint but the vast majority is certainly better than that.  A stunning version.

'For Absent Friends' plays very clearly from start to finish with no background static but there are a few light ticks once per revolution for the first 20 seconds but they really are not that intrusive as they are not loud by any means.  The remainder of this gentle track plays with genuine quality with no sign of any interference.  Overall Ex+ is fair.

'The Return Of The Giant Hogweed' plays with superb audio from the get go.  The opening instrumental and vocal are faultless and from on this standard is very much kept up.  From start to finish there is literally no interference and the sonic quality is like you are transported back to 1971!  Every section plays with such precision there is no need to elaborate other than to say the final powerful section is mind-blowing!  No distortion here.  This track is Mint in every single way.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro on 'Seven Stones' is nigh on perfect with only a couple of dust ticks and the first vocal also impresses.  The first classic chorus plays to perfection with just one static click soon after.  From then on it plays with a stunning clarity and definition.  Each note is so sharp and precise and whilst this record has been played a number of times it has clearly been very carefully looked after and only played on 'high end' equipment thus maintaining its original sonic quality.  The final instrumental section is superb!  I will grade as Mint- even with that static click as the rest is so impressive.

'Harold The Barrel' plays with exceptional quality from the first note to the last with...no interference.  There is no 'background' of any kind and Mint is very much deserved.  Just a couple of dust ticks on the final piano section.

'Harlequin' then plays beautifully for such a quiet number.  From start to finish I heard only a handful of barely audible dust ticks and it basically plays as well as it would have done over 50 years ago!  Another Mint track.

The intro on 'The Fountain Of Salmacis' again demonstrates further evidence of a vinyl so well preserved - the clarity and depth is STUNNING.  The first vocal is also faultless and thereafter it plays with great precision.  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and the power of the audio is off the scale!  There is no distortion and the more it progresses the more you are impressed by it.  Put simply there is no interference - the quieter sections play with wonderful clarity and this final track again deserves a Mint grade.  The closing instrumental is fantastic - what a finish!

In summary this highly collectable first pressing on 'the famous Charisma' pink scroll label plays to a superb standard with barely any intrusion.  Yes there are a small number of ticks on 'For Absent Friends' but as stated they are not loud and they are certainly not clicks!  Aside from that the clarity, power and warmth of the audio is so strong and something you only find on vinyl.  This 'sonic quality' cannot be replicated by any other medium, the 'sound' is stunning.  A superb 'package' overall with a cover and inner that are in great shape also.

The Gatefold & 'Red' Charisma Inner Sleeve

The textured cover is in superb condition with very little shelf wear.  The edges have hardly any rubbing and the only 'obvious' wear is on the top and bottom of the spine but even then it is by no means excessive and the rest of the spine is in great shape and 100% legible.  The right hand corners are very clean with only minimal wear and the opening edge has no real wear at all.  The front cover is unmarked with only a very minor amount of wear noticeable in the corners and the back cover is just as impressive.  The inside of the gatefold is super clean with no marking or creasing - a fine example overall.

The red Charisma inner sleeve does have a couple of side splits but is otherwise very clean with no marks and only light creasing.  This sought after inner is quite hard to find today.
