Yes!   ...This is the impossible to find 1st UK press on the PINK SCROLL label. It has all the characteristics that only a first press has. The one always missed out is the gatefold sleeve. Of course it has to be the extremely rare TEXTURED one. Many of these sold as first presses are actually SECOND presses because the sleeve is not textured on the inside. The album I'm selling is the real deal. It is textured outside and also INSIDE!!! Another feature is the spine WITHOUT lettering. Any sleeve with lettering is a second or third press. This copy has defied the ravages of time and is well preserved. Of course it has the original lyric insert, so often missing from this album.

This was the second album Genesis issued and the first classic proper. The songs had by now matured into the very first Genesis epics. This first issue hardly sold in any significant numbers with an estimated 2000 sold of the scroll variety with all the first press indicators. Not too many would have survived over the years. In this condition it is impossibly scarce. It has the earliest "GG"  and "T" stampers.

Vinyl: VG+ to EX. Both sides of this fantastic album still have their JUST PRESSED deep black shine. This is the ultra heavy first press. When you hold this album in the very brightest of lights you can see very few very faint paper retraction traces, there are just a couple of shallow hairlines/marks visible on each side as well.  Both sides play WITHOUT DISTORTION or JUMPS. I have played this album on my very sensitive and revealing Project Debut turntable with Ortofon cartridge and the sound is full and crisp there is NO loss of sound quality at all. There are  light, minor dust crackles, they can be heard only in the track separation areas and the run in and run out parts and in some quieter passages. A couple of low level pops here and there but not at all intrusive. A professional clean will bring this back to its full glory.  NO skips, NO jumps etc. A beautiful HiFi sound reproduction rarely heard for this album on vinyl.

Sleeve: VG+ to EX. A great textured E.J. Day gatefold sleeve to match the vinyl. This album is from a collection of a progressive music collector who really cared for his albums storing them in dust free condition away from any humidity on purpose built shelves inside a cabinet.  The edges have just light storage wear. The opening is crisp. The spine has kept its lustre with barely any wear. Small corner scuff on the top. NO splits, NO tears, NO creases. In any case have a look at the pictures I have provided plenty which speak for themselves. Easily the best sleeve you will ever find of this album. Of course textured inside and outside. NO writing.

Insert: Nice but has a few creases near the bottom (see pic).

Labels: A name and initials as per the picture. Two catalogue stickers on one label.
