GENESIS The Lamb Lies Down Broadway Original UK 1st Press 2LP Near Mint
This is one of 5 completely original studio Genesis LP’s I am currently auctioning, spanning the Gabriel Era from Trespass to “The Lamb”. I am offering for sale only first pressings complete with every exact feature that which makes them truly original copies. Please take a look at these other auctions I currently have running on ebay!!
Genesis The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. 1974 Charisma CGS 101 .
This is a real gem. I’m offering a totally original first pressing of this LP complete with the extremely rare red competition inner only placed inside the very first run of this LP. The competition inner is particular to this LP because the catalogue number CGS 101 was stamped on all copies of the inner in the bottom right hand corner – see photos. The LP was issued in Nov 1974 and the inner states that the competition closes on 1.1.75 so those buying this LP would have had to hurry to submit it on time! The record has the matrix codes 1 A-2U ; 1 B-2U ; 2 A-2U ; 2 B-2U importantly with the Marketed By B&C Records credit on the Label, which came before the later Manufactured and Distributed Credit that is sometimes found on this LP. Totally original and in superb condition.
If, like me, you are fed up with seeing this LP advertised as “an original first pressing” on ebay when it has blue labels or phonogram credits or a sleeve manufactured by Robor, or any combination of these then * look no further * and be assured this is the genuine original.
Condition: Gradings are per standard UK Record Collector guidelines.
Outer Sleeve: Near Mint
Manufactured by Bruin BV signifying an original UK first release. The condition of the sleeve is absolutely superb and near mint overall, this sleeve is typically found with ring wear and dirty marks due to its pale colour, but this one has been cared for extremely well. It has one of the whitest covers for a first issue that I have ever seen. It is hard to criticise or find fault save for noting a small compression to the top left corner and one or two small and extremely faint creases near the spine on the reverse. Quite remarkable and I hesitate to use terms such as museum quality but this is not very far away from that.
Record Inners: EX+ to Near Mint
Original Heavy duty thick card inners which are in really nice condition. There is a 1cm overlap at the opening to each inner and this is only present on the original pressings. On later Phonogram releases the opening is level on both edges. The inners are also prone to foxing, but these are very clean with no discernable marks. There is the odd small crease on each inner, but this is very superficial.
Record Labels: Near Mint, very small amount of spindle wear is visible under strong halogen light.
Records: All are EX+ to Near Mint
Lovely condition vinyl on both LP’s. The odd very faint hairline mark is just visible when held to strong halogen light, but nothing of real note whatsoever. They are wonderful condition examples for an LP of 38 year vintage. The centre of record 1 still has the remnants of vinyl showing that were cut from the centre hole, and has clearly been played only a few times. Marketed By B&C Records credit only present on first release.
Competition Insert: Near mint and in lovely condition. No creases and usused. It notes that the competition entries must be submitted by 1st Jan 1975.
Overall really fantastic original copy of The Lamb in near mint condition and complete with extremely rare competition insert. One of the finest original examples in existence.
Thanks for looking.
- PLEASE NOTE THAT SINCE LISTING I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE PHOTOS APPEAR TO MAKE THE INNERS LOOK AS THOUGH THEY ARE YELLOW IN COLOUR OR STAINED. THIS IS NOT THE CASE AND DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE IMAGE PLEASE BE ASSURED THEY ARE NOT YELLOWING IN ANY WAY!!! Thanks
