GENESIS: The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Original, initial first release with gatefold sleeve printed and made by Bruib B. V. of Zaandam, Holland, marketed and distributed by B and C Records Limited. Matrix numbers (record one): CG 1 A-2U; CG 1 B-2U and record two: CG 2 A-2U; CG 2 B-2U.

Both sides of each record are in excellent to near mint condition with just the slightest hint of wear; a few faint hairline marks, though barely visible and no scratches or scuff marks. The labels are clean on both records and there are no spindle marks or evidence of wear to the spindle-holes. I would attribute any wear present to handling, since both records don't look as if they have been played more than a couple of times.

Inner sleeves are near mint, bordering close to mint with light 'foxing' in one or two spots (see photos). This seems common with these sleeves for some unknown reason. But apart from this, the inner sleeves are clean and tight.

Main sleeve is near mint, nice and clean with hardly any wear, apart from one finger crease near the opening and a tiny bit of edge wear to the opening sides. Spine shows no creasing, though there is a small tear just over the word 'Broadway' and the last three letters are missing. This is a lovely copy and though I wouldn't use words like 'Archive' or 'Museum' to describe it, I'm sure these would be considered acceptable by others.

Grading system
I use the standard grading system introduced by Record Collector to determine the condition of the records I am selling, with either a + or – added where necessary to provide a wider selection of grades for greater accuracy.

  • Mint (M)
The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

  • Excellent (EX)
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

  • Very Good (VG)
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

  • Good (G)
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

  • Fair (F)
The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

  • Poor (P)
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

  • Bad (B)
The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection-filler.
