Genesis : Trespass A-2U / B-2U 1st Press Large Mad Hatter Label 1972
This album is part of a superb Genesis collection I purchased recently and to say they have been well looked after is an understatement! They all play with stunning quality and the covers are in great condition also.
This may not be a first 'pink scroll' pressing but it is a first pressing on the large Mad Hatter label and it was a joy to listen to! It has to be the 'cleanest' one I have ever played and the clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio is stunning. S1 is hugely impressive and then S2 takes it to another level, it is almost perfect! Aside from a little static right at the start for 3/4 seconds the sonic quality is absolutely stunning, I cannot emphasise how much! It has the two finest examples of 'Dusk' and 'The Knife' that I have ever listened to. 'The Knife' in particular is just mind-blowing! This is not to downplay the audio on S1 because it also plays with stunning quality. Clearly another Genesis record that has been very well preserved.
The E.J. Day gatefold is also in remarkable condition with hardly any wear and the 'white' inside is so clean. The original inner sleeve is also in excellent condition. Sadly there is no lyric inner with this album but I do wonder if it was ever included because the original owner was so meticulous with this records and it would be surprising if he misplaced it.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy sheen overall. Under a bright light I can see some faint hairlines but there is nothing that stands out and a couple of minor blemishes on S1. There is also a 'haze' patch on S2 but none of this has any effect on the audio, it is all purely superficial. There is no groove or surface wear and the run outs are very clean also. The large Mad Hatter Charisma labels are in perfect condition with no marking or spindle wear.
Play Grading
The opening vocal section on 'Looking For Someone' has barely any static and as the volume increases the audio is superb, so strong and deep. It continues to play with a stunning clarity of sound and the depth is so impressive also. The mid instrumental is 'as new' including the very quiet flute section and the remainder is of the same standard. This is one of the finest versions of this classic that I have heard, no question. Sonically it is STUNNING! I will grade the intro as Near Mint but from then on Mint- is deserved at the very least.
The quiet opening on 'White Mountain' is near perfect with just one quiet background tick, there is no static. Gabriel's first vocal is flawless and the next quiet instrumental has only a couple of barely audible statics. From then on it plays with real quality and I only 'noticed' a minor amount of inner groove distortion, it is not intrusive in any way, plus two minor statics. The whistle section near the ending has a handful of very light statics and the classic hum ending plays beautifully without any background. A Near Mint- aversion.
'Visions Of Angels' plays with stunning audio throughout. If you win this listen intently to the mid instrumental it is absolutely phenomenal! It has clarity and depth in abundance and that applies to the entire track. Mint-

The intro on 'Stagnation' has a little static right at the start for 3/4 seconds and then the opening vocal section plays with stunning clarity. The following instrumental is close to perfect with only a couple of static sounds and it is very quiet of course. The louder section is superb with great power and depth and the next quiet plays with exceptional clarity. It continues in much the same way with no intrusion - a small number of very quiet statics - and the louder I wanna drink... vocal section provides another example of just how strong the audio is here. The powerful closing section is flawless and overall Near Mint is a fair reflection of the audio.
'Dusk' keeps up the standard and plays with STUNNING clarity through every section. Once again the audio is so clean and distinct and there is barely any background. In fact barely describes it well - it is such a quiet track and yet I only 'picked up' a handful of minor statics and Mint- is easily deserved. Wow!
'The Knife' begins with a perfect intro - loud and dynamic with zero intrusion. The opening verse / chorus can also be described 'as new' and the instrumental bridge is on the same level. The next vocal section is equally as strong and the 'loud' instrumental has no background either. The following quiet passage has a clarity of sound that is second to none and the exit from this passage with the every increasing volume is on a level I cannot remember hearing before. The power, depth and resonance is just incredible and Phillips solo is just as impressive. The remainder of this classic instrumental could not play any better and the closing vocal / instrumental is breathtaking - I just don't have the words which is a rarity!! This is without doubt the most 'complete', the most STUNNING version of this classic that I have ever listened to. I am 100% confident in grading it as MINT!
The Textured Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The E.J. Day cover is in lovely condition with hardly any wear. The edges have no rubbing and the spine has only a little wear on the corners and the usual 'line' running down the centre caused by the gatefold being opened. The right hand corners are extremely clean and the opening edge is pristine. The front cover is stunning, I can't really fault it - a couple of minor corner rubs that is all. The back cover is just as impressive and the inside of the gatefold is close to perfect also which is so rare. It is of course so white and yet there is no obvious marking, a couple of very faint marks in the right hand corners but hardly worth a mention really. A stunning example overall and I do think Near Mint- is a fair grade.
The original die-cut inner sleeve is in excellent shape with no side splits or tears. It has only a little creasing and some faint age related fading around the edges.

Postage & Packaging
I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
