GEORGE HARRISON DARK HORSE RADIO SPECIAL
'PROMOTION COPY'
1974 EXTREMELY UNUSUAL JACKET US ONLY
George Harrison interview interspersed with new music from the (then new) Dark Horse's releases for Splinter and Ravi Shankar in 1974. I ACQUIRED THIS RARE RADIO-PLAY PROMO COPY FROM A LONGTIME BEATLES COLLECTOR IN THE LATE 1990's. Normally this pressing is housed in a generic white cardboard jacket at most. The significant difference with this one is it's housed in an unfamiliar Dark Horse stamped brown cardboard jacket. A rubber-stamped Dark Horse logo on the front center of the jacket. An unusual handwritten sticker reads "GEORGE HARRISON" in one corner. The sticker is imprinted with "SANYO Vcord II", (V-Cord was an analog recording videocassette format developed and released by Sanyo in 1974). What I project is this was sent to a radio station in 1974 and whomever played or stored the album added the strange sticker randomly. I also wildly project that the Dark Horse Logo was rubber-stamped by either someone's homemade stamp or perhaps there was some Dark Horse promotional stamper back then? I have never seen nor heard of any such rubber stamper. I've never solved this in all these years. I think it's rather safe to say that this album jacket is pure anomaly and was probably created in a radio station. The jacket cover is brown and slightly speckled, worn and shows some heavy water damage on the mouth side, more visible on the back than front. A rather strange porous brown jacket which shows tiny white and brown fragments in its structure. Ever so slight ringwear, slight aging on the edges. The vinyl does have a Dark Horse sleeve. The sleeve is in good shape though it has someone's name written in pen on one side. I'm not positive, I think it reads "Reid". Some ringwear and bends on the sleeve. The vinyl is in very good condition. It may have been lightly played, has some small scratches or rubs.
Sadly this does NOT include the introductory letter from Richard Totoian at A&M. I never found one
