"Originating in Augsberg circa 1969 as Phallus Dei, Gift had quite a confused history. Their debut LP as Phallus Dei apparently was never officially released, though it is rumoured to exist. After ill-fated attempts to get a record contract they changed name to Gift and adopted a straighter hard-rock style. It has some great moments. Note: although the cover of GIFT lists Nick Woodland as a member, he had moved to Subject Esq. before they recorded it!
