This is the 1954, first-pressing, Flat Rim, Frame Cover, Deep-Groove, "RVG" etched, 10," "P"-pressing of Gil Melle's "GIL MELLE QUARTET featuring Lou Mecca" on the 767 Lexington Ave labels of Blue Note BLP 5054. Musicians include Gil Melle, Lou Mecca, Billy Phillips, Vinnie Thomas.
This Blue Note 10" original Flat Rim VINYL plays very well, clean, very dynamic, with occasional pops/ticks (some tracks dead quiet, others with pops and ticks). Music is strong, dynamic; pure and rich in tone. No skips. No warps. No locked grooves. No distortion. No groove wear. Both sides have good gloss. Many hairline non-feelable marks, 2 feelable one-inch scratches. The Deep Groove 767 Lexington Ave are excellent with spindle wear. As with all Lexington Ave to New York USA Blue Note pressings, imperfections, do not detract from this powerfully recorded and pressed vinyl.
10" FRAME COVER COVER is in good shape, solid lamination; top and bottom seams and spine are very good, no splits. Corners worn. see photos. Cover has taped tear and a gouge, see photos. Back jacket is in very good condition, minor aging, "385" in pencil.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
