This fantastic 3-LP set was issued to raise funds for the Glastonbury Festival. It has never been reissued & has never been officially available on CD. Many of the tracks on this set have yet to be re-released elsewhere in any format.
Glastonbury Fayre was held at Worthy Farm, Pilton, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, UK, West Europe, Europe, West Hemisphere, Planet Earth, Solar System, Milky Way, from Sunday, June 20, to Thursday June 24, 1971 encompassing Summer Solstice. There was no monetary profit - it was free.
It had been planned by Andrew Kerr (Randolph Churchill's PA for many years) and Arabella Churchill who felt all other festivals at the time were over commercialised. It was paid for by the few who supported the ideal so the entrance was free and took a renaissance tradition of music, dance, poetry, theatre, lights and spontaneous entertainment. It was in this year that the first "pyramid" stage was constructed out of scaffolding and expanded metal covered with plastic sheeting, built on a site above the Glastonbury-Stonehenge ley line.
Pyramids - Well, you probably know about them.
Geodesic Domes were the brainchild of R. Buckminster Fuller & are a subject in themselves!

***
In 1972, the organizers of the Glastonbury Fayre released an amazingly lavish, triple album set to raise funds for the Fair (or “Fayre”). Only 5,000 copies were pressed up, and although bootlegged version have appeared over the years, the rare originals invariably traded for sizeable sums. Rarity begot misconceptions, not least being that the set was recorded live at Glastonbury itself. Some of it was indeed, including Mighty Baby, both Pink Fairies tracks, the Edgar Broughton Band and Daevid Allen and Gong. Others were indeed recorded live -- like the Grateful Dead's side-long "Dark Star...Bury" extravaganza, and the original, unmixed version of Hawkwind's "Silver Machine" (barely recognizable here as the hit that would soon devour the planet) -- but on other stages: the Dead were captured at Wembley Stadium earlier that year, and Hawkwind at the Roundhouse. Marc Bolan and Pete Townshend handed over more personal offerings, a song each recorded at their respective homes, while other artists delivered unreleased studio recordings. All told, it was a stunning set, and priced at a snip under four pounds, an astounding bargain.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) The six sides of the 3-LP set vary in condition from one to another, between VERY GOOD+ to NEAR MINT, but are overall STRONG VG++, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The album comes with ALL original extras (posters, decals, stickers) listed above
(c) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER (the large, foldable, 6-part poster doubles as a cover when folded)
THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL PRE-PRINTED PLASTIC BAGGY HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS VG++
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has a visible cluster of tiny peel-off marks in one section (affecting a total area of about 10 square inches) . This looks more like a surface abrasion than a peeled-off spot.
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3
- Visible shelf wear noted on the seams (foldings of the cover)
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams
- Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease) in one of the corners.
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No split seams
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)
- No yellowing from aging
- No writing
- No stamps
- No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams
- No stains
- No mold or mildew spots
- No stickers or labels
- No water damage
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No warping
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No bar codes
- No RIAA stamps or stickers.
