Description

THE GRAHAM BOND ORGANIZATION - THERE'S A BOND BETWEEN US

A nice copy of this rare and sought after 1965 UK 1st pressing R&B/jazz classic on the COLUMBIA black and blue label, MONO 33SX 1750

 Matrix Numbers :

Side 1   XAX 2950 - 1  with stampers "1" and "1.1" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 2   XAX 2950 - 1  with stampers "1" and "G" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

The appearance of the vinyl is very good+. Nice jet black lacquered sheen, completely flat and an impressive gleamy appearance. On side 1 there are 9 light, surface only pencil thin scuffs/wispy hairlines that are visible (though not immediately obvious) in normal daylight. On side 2 there are no blemishes that are visible in normal daylight. Then under a bright light, and when the vinyl is tilted, there are a few further wispy hairlines and very light paper scuffs in evidence on both sides. But there is nothing below the surface and nothing which is sufficiently intrusive to detract from the overall impressive audio quality.

The labels are excellent-. There are a number of stray, faint spindle traces adjacent to the centre hole on each side but no other blemishes. The "K" and "T" raised letter tax codes are clearly visible on the side 2 label.

The front laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is very good+. The edges remain well defined and rigid with barely any scuffing at all, there is no ring wear and just a little scuffing on each of the corners. The spine is rigid with all text legible but some mild laminate creasing at intervals along the spine. Closer inspection along the edges, including the spine, reveals the occasional 1-2cm perpendicular laminate crease and there is a diagonal 8cm laminate crease towards the bottom right hand corner. The reverse side is similarly VG+ with all the flip backs in excellent condition and just the occasional light surface crease found along the flip backs. There is a little age discolouration towards the opening edge which also suffers from just a little, very mild fraying and a name and date neatly written just above the side 1 credits (see photo).. The photo on the front side still has excellent clarity and the colours remain rich and vibrant.

Finally, the quality of the audio is very good+. Actually for much of the record the audio quality is excellent, but there is some very light and occasional background crackle, most noticeable (but even then not especially intrusive) at the beginning of each side. There is also the occasional light background click but I am sure this is static and/or down to dust in the grooves through decades of storage, because there are no scuffs or scratches/hairlines which should cause any clicking at all. There is no distortion, even at higher volume and frequency, and the overall tone and sound clarity are impressive. Each song makes for a great listen with some exceptional musicianship from four of the 60's greats.

The tracks are :

Side 1 :

1. WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?

2. HEAR ME CALLING YOUR NAME

3. THE NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME

4. WALKIN' IN THE PARK

5. LAST NIGHT

6. BABY CAN IT BE TRUE

Side 2 :

1. WHAT'D I SAY?

2. DICK'S INSTRUMENTAL

3. DON'T LET GO

4. KEEP A'DRIVIN'

5. HAVE YOU EVER LOVED A WOMAN?

6. CAMELS AND ELEPHANTS

Comes with original plain white inner sleeve with no splits or tears and fully functional but suffers from mild age discolouration and some light creasing. I always supply a new plain white inner as a matter of course.

In summary a solid VERY GOOD+ copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1965 UK R&B/jazz 1st pressing classic.

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

If this record interests you then take a look at my other 60's & 70's classic vinyl listings.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 48 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but over the years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boots, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I never intended selling any of my records but now I am retired and a combination of space requirements (caused partly by duplication) and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

For this item postage & packaging will be Royal Mail 1st class  : UK £3.00, continental Europe £6, and Rest of the World £10.

NOTE that for items selling for more than £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon tracked and signed for postage which incurs a further £2-6 P&P costs, dependent upon location so, please, do not pay until I have invoiced you!!

I do discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage.

Good luck with your bidding! Richard
