Description

THIS IS THE ITALIAN ORIGINAL PRESSING on ULTIMA SPIAGGIA label. UNLAMINATED SINGLE COVER. The cover is in VG(+) condition: normal wear BUT creases on edges, some discolouration/wear on spines/corners, surface ring-halo; for details see photos. The vinyl  is in EX condition (some clicks/mild crackles, mostly due to pressing) and plays wonderfully and without lessening in sound quality. RARE ALBUM.

GRAMIGNA

An eight-piece band named after a weed but at the same time healing plant, the Gramigna, whose lineup, in addition to the classic instruments of rock tradition, also features mandolins, sitars, zithers, psalteries (another type of zither), violins, a bassoon and an oboe. The latter played by Mario Arcari who would soon become a sought-after session man. Among other things, particularly appreciated by Ivano Fossati who would make his most significant records and concerts with him. Led by guitarist Maurizio Martelli, the group would not have much success, but this does not take away from its only album, Gran disordine sotto il cielo, published in the spring of 1977, which is not only technically and artistically convincing, but very consistent with the society of the time. Musically, we are on the line of the Rock in Opposition movement, but with much smoother sounds.

Una band di otto elementi che prende il nome da una pianta infestante ma allo stesso tempo curativa, la Gramigna, nella cui formazione, oltre ai classici strumenti della tradizione rock, compaiono anche mandolini, sitar, cetre, salteri (altro tipo di cetra), violini, un fagotto e un oboe. Quest’ultimo suonato da Mario Arcari che di lì a poco diventerà un ricercato session men. Tra l’altro, particolarmente gradito a Ivano Fossati che con lui realizzerà i suoi dischi e i suoi concerti più significativi. Capitanato dal chitarrista Maurizio Martelli, il gruppo non avrà molta fortuna, ma ciò nulla toglie al suo unico album, Gran disordine sotto il cielo, edito nella primavera del 1977, che non solo è tecnicamente e artisticamente convincente, ma ben coerente con la società di allora. Musicalmente, siamo sulla linea del movimento Rock in Opposition, ma con i suoni molto più levigati...(John's Classic Rock-Rock Progressivo Italiano)
