Description

This is a vinyl copy of the classic, 1968 Psychedelic LP "ANTHEM OF THE SUN" by THE GRATEFUL DEAD.  This is a very early STEREO "Crossover" issue (absolute 1st Pressing originals would be on the Orange label with a WS 1749 catalogue number) of their 2nd album. Probably an early 2nd Pressing this album is unusual in that it has the WS 1749 catalogue number on the actual record labels, but the later K 46021 number on the non-flipback sleeve. On the collectable more olive-green WARNER BROTHERS label (much earlier than the mid-green variety); it has dual matrix numbers; WS 1749 A-1 & B-2 as well as K46021A & K46021B (Transition/Crossover ?).  * Although there is no "Made in U.K." on the label, I'm almost 100% certain that this is a British made record. It doesn't look at all like the U.S. versions I have seen over the years.

The outer, single, GARROD & LOFTHOUSE LTD. card cover is in EXCELLENT condition overall.  Some very minor rub/ring-wear, but with no edge rubbing (some minor corner rub); this cover is actually still really good, especially for it's age.  The front highly colourful unlaminated surface is EXCELLENT, but does have some small surface wear. The spine is EXCELLENT; perfectly, straight, flat & true with all Title Print easily readable &, just a couple of spinal dings letting it down.  The opening edge is EXCELLENT with no feathering & being clean, straight & flat. The rear, unlaminated white with black print surface is EXCELLENT-, having everything in near perfect order, but the dulling & general age-related wear you would expect. There are no unsightly marks, some slight grubby type stains but, no names written on it.  I grade this back surface as EXC.- , but with all type/print perfectly readable.

The OLIVE GREEN WB record labels with Black print & Orange/Blue logos are EXCELLENT. Just the odd minor spindle marks on them prevents a higher grading.

The vinyl is in even better condition than the cover (apart from one minor problem); I grade it almost all EXCELLENT+ with just one very small surface mark (a pressing fault, raised "pimple") visible in daylight & a couple more under strong artificial light bringing it down to EXCELLENT. Certainly no major scratches or really serious or, deep marks. Test played today on my highly critical Linn Sondek LP12 ; Plays REALLY WELL with barely a click or, crackle until the needle reaches the "pimple" where it clicks a few times, but doesn't jump; & just some surface noise between tracks & in the quieter passages.
