Notes/Comments: This is a collectable, classic Grateful Dead reel tape. The recording contains concert highlights recorded from the late show performance of February 13 and 14, 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York City. The album has an acoustic side and an electric side. Often known simply as "Bear's Choice", the title refers to the band's soundman Owsley "Bear" Stanley. Owsley chose his favorite tracks for the album. He compiled it as a tribute of sorts to Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, the band's original keyboard player and blues aficionado, who died during the production of the release. As such, it features three songs on which Pigpen sings lead, including all of side two. It was originally intended to be the first volume of a series. This recording blew me away when I first heard it. I was familiar with their later recordings, but this, by far, was and is my favorite.

Reel / Tape Condition: The tape/recording is the highlight of this posting. Though the box is not great, the music is. I have 100 percent play tested this tape. There are no dropouts and no noisy spots. It is a great listen. The reel label is very readable.
Box Condition: No broken box corners, hinge is intact, box exterior and interior are both stained but the box does not smell. There are no tape, writing or stickers on the box. The front artwork is rated 8 on 10 scale due to the stains. There is little wear to the graphic. The rear is rated 8 on 10 scale due to areas of staining (See scan) but the graphic is not heavily worn. Spine also has some staining. Overall a decent, but not great box.
Quality Counts: Leader tape (3M timing) and reversing foil have been added (5-13-2017) for machines with reversing sensors. All of my leader ends are secured in the reel with soft foam to keep the tape from unwinding during storage and shipment. For shipping, foam inserts are placed around the reels in the reel box to stop the reel from rattling around. The tape will be inside of a new clear plastic bag and the box will also be in a new clear plastic bag.
