GREEN DAY DOOKIE Orig US 1994 Press PINK VINYL Reprise 9 45529-1 NM/NM w/ Insert.
Billie Joe & His Boys with their “HUMONGO” Breakout album. Actually their 3rd studio release, but this was the “breakout,” they got signed to major label Reprise Records. Vinyl is pink, and is about MINT—“looks unplayed,” glossy & shiny. Pressed at Specialty Records Corporation (“SRC”), Olyphant, Pennsylvania, so you can expect a top-quality pressing. I worked there and I well-remember this album. It was HUGE and literally all-over-the-place at the Plant. Not enough room so there would be pallets and pallets on the floor. Through the walkways, everything. Jacket here is NM with no “saw cut,” even. Has the original large photo insert / lyrics sheet, NM.
Recorded late ‘93 at Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, “CALI.” The cover art is Berkeley’s Telegraph Avenue, done by Richie Bucher, a Punk from the East Bay. Joe Armstrong wrote all the songs himself except one, Emenius Sleepus on Side 2 (written by Mike Dirnt.). I remember these days well. Singles like Welcome to Paradise (my favorite! Now it’s gonna be stuck in my head two days)—which was originally on the album Kerplunk; When I Come Around; Basket Case; Longview; and “She,” which was a dj / radio-only single release (promo-only): “She, screams in silence, a sullen rot penetrating through her mind…She’s figured out all her doubts, were someone else’s point of view…” yeah this is “HER.” A girl I know lol. But she wasn’t born yet, then haha. Also on the record is the HIDDEN TRACK, “All By Myself,” by Tre Cool. It is on Side 2, the last song F.O.D., ends at 2:52. Then All By Myself begins. Pretty Cooool…. Btw, Basket Case which was a big hit, mentions in the 3rd verse a reference to a male prostitute. Pretty edgy of Billie Joe in those vintage 90’s. He said he wanted to just try something different (I figure he did this with all the songs lol!). He said “you know, not your Grandfather’s Prostitute…or maybe he was!” Ha!
So Liquid Dookie…umm, I mean DOOKIE 💩 by-the-by, was named after, shall we say, bad food eaten by the band on the road—-and the aftermath there-with! O-K……so Dookie won a Grammy in 1995 for Best Alternative Album of the Year. At least two of the singles were nominated for Grammies too. The Album put Punk Rock in Mainstream. Dookie sold like hotcakes 🥞 it was certify DIAMOND by RIAA some time ago for 10 million copies sold. It is now well-over 20 million. I don’t know anyone who does NOT like this album. Billie Joe and all his “issues “ make for great songs. And many of us know some of these issues ourselves.
US BUYERS ONLY PLEASE, from the lower-48 Continental States. Thank you. I’ve also got Green Day’s Insomniac currently listed, VINYL. The great follow-up to Dookie. Check it out, and my other vinyl gems listed lol. Of course I will combine shipping, whenever possible. Right now I’ve got “No time to search the world around, ‘cause you know where I’ll be found—When I Come Around…” (yes I can do Billie Joe’s “accent “ good, I think!)
