Plenty of young pretenders have attempted to reprise death metal’s golden period, yet few have channeled the spirit of Death, Obituary and Morbid Angel with the gusto Gruesome exude on Savage Land.

Led by Matt Harvey of Exhumed, and also featuring members of Possessed, Malevolent Creation and Derketa, the supergroup’s intentional homage is a filthy slab of old-school riffs and rancour which sounds as though it’s been plucked straight from 1988.
