Gurdjieff (1866-1949) was a mystic & spiritual leader. De Hartmann was a Russian composer that collaborated with Gurdjieff on realizing his music composition interests. What resulted was very beautiful piano music rooted in Oriental melodic themes remembered from Gurdjieff’s travels to Asia and synthesized by Western musical notation. The tonal elements ended up sounding a lot like & pre-dating minimal music. Pianist Herbert Henck performs “Hymns from a Great Temple”, “Journey to Inaccessible Places” and “Seekers of the Truth”.
Records (2) are in NM+ condition (appear unplayed) and gatefold jacket is NM. Hard to find set. Don’t miss it!
