Galt MacDermot’s First Natural Hair Band (1970, UA) VG/VG+, In Shrink, 1st Press
This is a nice copy of Galt MacDermot's First Natural Hair Band which was released on United Artists Records in 1970. It's a first pressing with that super-funky orange and black label. Musically, this is an awesome blend of rock and funk and jazz. MacDermot's records are often sampled in hip-hop, so who knows where samples from this one could show up.
Condition-wise, this is in nice shape:
Sleeve: VG, it's still mostly in shrink, though the shrink is loose. The edge that is not wrapped has some discoloration and dirt or light mold in spots. Sleeve is slightly musty, but not overpowering at all. Also some damage to the corner. No splitting, very nice spine. I think you could remove the shrink and really clean this up and have a very nice looking cover. Original inner is gone and I have put in a rice-paper lined new inner sleeve.
Vinyl: VG+, play tested on a AT LP-120 and sounds fantastic. Visually, there are a couple of hairlines, but they are very thin. Sound-wise, it's great. There is some extremely light crackle in a few spots, barely noticeable if you are not listening for it. No skips, no deep scratches, both sides of the label look great. I'd say this jumps the bar to VG+ - it's a really enjoyable listen.
