The 1974 double concept album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was Peter Gabriel's final with the band before Phil Collins took over as lead singer - the title track, "Carpet Crawlers" and "In the Cage" remain popular parts of live Genesis shows.
Few albums, especially of this epic proportion, rival this magnificent production first released in 1974. In an era of over indulgent double LP efforts and "rock operas", "Lamb" was inspired by a trip to New York City by the band, resulting in the writing and production of what is considered not only the high point of the "Gabriel era" of Genesis, but also in one of the greatest rock albums, ever. Featuring extended passages showcasing the multi-instrumental talents of the band plus the prolific and expressive if sometimes weird and disturbing lyrics by Gabriel, it tells the saga of a NYC graffiti artist named Rael and his ultimate transformation. The album would be Gabriel's swan song as a member and help launch a still on-going solo career.
The 180g audiophile vinyl double LP features 2008 stereo mixes by Nick Davis and is housed in a heavyweight gatefold sleeve featuring the classic cover art faithfully reproduced from its original source.
